do you have the Media Library option turned on in PS3 Media Player? are you using absolute or relative paths, with or without drive designations? I can create a playlist across various directories that the PS3 will see, but when I load it I get a "No tracks found" or something similar message.įor those that have had playlists work with PS3 Media Server: I can browse to and play any/all of my music in my mp3 folders without a problem. I've tried using Playlist Creator, but with no luck.
For example, if I have f:\mp3\boston and I create a playlist in that directory, it will work for all the songs in that directory.īut I want a playlist that can pull things from any directory. If I create a playlist that is in the same folder as the music, it works. Within that folder, I have a multitude of other folders for different artists/albums.Īll I want to do is create a playlist, ideally in a directory like F:\MP3\Playlists, that has been populated with music from all over within f:\MP3 or it's subdirectories. Okay, you can select the UNC filepath by going through My Network Places and find your way to the file, select it and it will present the full UNC path within Playlist Creator and save it correctly. In the meantime, simply edit the playlist with notepad and do a search/replace on the mapped drive letter with its UNC equivalent, and your playlist will work and you can make playlists with content independent of its physical location. So, if the author modifies his program to support UNC path naming, his program will be PS3/TVersity playlist compatible. SMB UNC addresses don't use windows based mapped drive conventions, so when Y:\ appears to the PS3 parser, it has no idea that Y:\ = \\maxtor\musiclibrary so the file is not found and is not played. If you think about this the reason is simple, TVersity passes the absolute address as an SMB UNC address to the PS3. However, if I edit the file so that instead of y:\Beethoven\5th Symphony.wmv it reads \\maxtor\musiclibrary\Beethoven\5th Symphony.wmv the PS3 find the file and plays it. The PS3 will not find or play this item in the playlist. To prove it I made a playlist that contained an item from my \\maxtor\musiclibrary share which is mapped as Y: With absolute paths it shows the item as y:\Beethoven\5th Symphony.wmv If you try to use absolute paths and you have your content on a shared drive or NAS somewhere and mapped that drive, the PS3 will not find the file and play it.
